Residential and Commercial

Any work performed in the road right-of-way must be done under the issuance of a permit.  This includes driveways (both new, resurfacing and relocation), changes to the adjoining road shoulder, ditches, placement of fences or other structures, as well as any change to the earth surface.  A new private road accessing a county road also calls for a permit.

Road Commission staff will review the documentation provided and perform an on-site inspection.  An application form is completed along with the appropriate fee.  An original signature must be obtained on the permit form.  If a contractor applies for the permit on behalf of a client, an authorization letter must also be submitted.

The same information must also be supplied for commerical permits along with a site plan for the development.

Residential county driveway permits are $25 (1 home), $75 (2-4 homes), or $100 (5-8 homes) payable by either cash or check.  Permits are generally issued within five to seven working days.  Parties doing the work within the road right-of-way are required to provide proof of certain levels of liability insurance and to name the Road Commission as an additional insured before the permit will be issued.

Commercial permit fees are $150.  Driveways requiring road improvements are $500.  Applicants must also supply site plans when applying for a commercial permit.
