Service Requests

As you come across potholes, contact us with a good description of where they are -- nearest address, distance from intersection, what side of the road, etc. We can always use another set of “eyes” out there!

Report road problems to 231-922-4848 or email us at:  gtcrc@gtcrc.org

Winter Preparedness

We are gearing up for winter. Our winter sand pile is nearly as tall as as our salt barn.  Sander boxes, spreaders and blades are being installed as our trucks change gears from summer to winter operations.

There is still time to check your furnace and its filters, smoke detectors, chimneys and mailboxes.  The often-overlooked mailbox needs to be checked, too.  Click here for a quick overview on mailbox winter survival tips - a few minutes of inspection and repair could save hours of outdoor repairs and lost/damaged mail.

Snowfall summary is as follows:

November 2011 2.5"

December 2011 2.75"

January 2012 48.50" for a season total of 53.75"

Check the snowfall detail amounts here.

Community Outreach

Our employees are a vital part of the community - not only through their employment serving the citizens of our county, but in their personal lives.  We are your neighbors!

Child and Family Services

The Road Commission family of employees, retirees and spouses have assisting for more than 18 years to meet the needs of children and families at Christmas.  Various volunteer activities occur during the year to support this worthwhile event.

Area Food Pantries

Holiday times are tough for those in need and Road Commission employees have collected food and non-perishable donations for over 11 years for area pantries.

Heritage Parade

The Road Commission employees are proud of the 1992 restoration work accomplished on a 1938 Sno-Go with volunteer efforts of Teamsters Local 214 employees.  Assistance was provided by Wes' Body Shop.  Until the parade was cancelled in 2007, volunteer employees participated in the Cherry Festival's Heritage Parade.  It was an award-winning entry!

The Road Commission purchased this unit in 1948 from the Michigan Department of Transportation at a cost of $900.  This massive piece of snow removal equipment was operated in the Kingsley area between 1948-1963, moving snow at the rate of 16-20 tons/minute.

School Visitation

We love to visit schools with a full dress snowplow truck and talk about winter safety for kids.  One of our drivers' biggest concern involves kids -- either waiting for school buses or hiding in snow forts along the road as they clear the roads.  Have us come to your school - call us at 922-4849, extension 217, to make arrangements.  Did you notice the picture on our home page from Long Lake School?

Friday Night Live

During the August "Back to School" Friday Night Live, we have been down on Front Street with that snowplow truck.  Cameras capture visitors behind the wheel and blowing the horn.  Next time, come stand with your friends in front of the plow - you'll get a better understanding of the need to allow "Room to Groom" and give the plow some space!  You can also sign up so we may contact your school to make a visit to your class.

Other Areas of Public Service

Many of our employees volunteer to serve our community in local fire departments, township boards and committees, and non-profit organizations, as well as their places of worship.
