BIA/GT Band
The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and the Grand Traverse Band (GTB) have been partners with the Road Commission since the late 1990's. One of their first cooperative efforts was to offer funds to cost-share in the aerial photography of the then-proposed Hartman-Hammond Connector. Although the project did not go forward, it set the stage for more present day efforts.
The GTB evaluates our road system on a regular basis and then determines which roads qualify to become included in their "Tribal Road System." Roads which meet their criteria then became eligible for federal tribal and local 2% funds.
In 2010, the Grand Traverse Band funded the following projects;
1) Rehabilitate (crushing and shaping) and shoulder paving of East Silver Lake Road from Zimmerman to Rennie School Road - $681,000
2) Overlay Keystone Road from Cass Road to River Road - $131,000
3) Improve Secor Road, West Silver Lake Road to South Long Lake Road
4) Bates Road in Williamsburg
