Grand Traverse Band/GTCRC - Holiday Road
Join us Friday, May 10, at 9 AM to witness the execution of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Gand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and the Grand Traverse County Road Commission. The Band has selected Holiday Road to receive over $1.5 million in funding for road improvements. This is great news, especially for the residents of Acme and East Bay Townships.
Service Requests
As you come across potholes, contact us with a good description of where they are -- nearest address, distance from intersection, what side of the road, etc. We can always use another set of “eyes” out there!
Report road problems to 231-922-4848 or email us at: gtcrc@gtcrc.org
What Our Crews Are Doing
Warmer weather has the start of summer work in the wind. Graveling preparations are underway in Peninsula Township for the upgrade of five roads.
With the change in temps, asphalt plants have begun preparing "hot mix" to be used in pothole repairs. This material lasts longer the material we use in the winter.
Gravel roads and seasonal roads are getting in shape for summer.
Cracksealing will fill in the "gap" where roads are starting to crack. Keeping the moisture from getting below the surface prevents potholes.

ATTENTION ALL BIKERS
On February 23, 2011 the Board of County Road Commissioners of Grand Traverse County adopted a resolution supporting US Bicycle Route 35. That action was part of a state-wide movement that is culminating later this month. Read on... (or shall we say, Ride On!)
This month a very significant event will be happening which affects cities along Lake Michigan and in the Upper Peninsula. The American Association of State Highway and Traffic Officials will meet in Traverse City and consider approval of the Michigan section of US Bicycle Route 35, which stretches 500 miles from New Buffalo to Sault Ste Marie. On Saturday, May 19 at 1 p.m., a ribbon cutting will be held to celebrate the new USBR 35 route. The event will take place at 642 Railroad Place, Traverse City, Michigan. You are invited to attend! (see attached pdf file) A group of cities along the route worked together with MDOT, road commissions, Adventure Cycling volunteers and regional planning groups to get this route ready for approval. The process started in 2009 and is a good example of cooperation between local and state government to achieve a goal that will give the Lake Michigan shoreline and the UP valuable recognition as a tourism destination. Approval of USBR 35 will designate it as a nationally recognized route, designated by the same organization that numbered the US interstate highway system. USBR 35 is a mapped bicycle route intended for experienced long distance touring bicyclists. It is not a trail, and no construction is proposed related to this route. It is meant to be a mapped recommendation as the best way to ride a bicycle long distance along the coast.
